Tiny Thimbles

A fabulous quilt called, Rocky Mountain Thimbles can be found in a wonderful book called, Small Blocks, Stunning Quilts by Mary Elizabeth Kinch and Biz Storm.  From 14 yards of fabric Biz pieced together 6,536 tiny thimbles.  I'm going to piece together about 260 tiny thimbles to make a doll quilt from Charisma fabric.  And, yes, I did follow my Expires in 30 Days rule!

As I started piecing the tiny thimbles together, I realized that I have a thing for one patch quilts.  Clamshells, apple cores, hexagon flowers and POTC blocks are a few projects that come to mind.  Also, in my Rainy Day Cupboard is a box full of 1 inch squares, 2 inch squares and tumblers.  And, sitting on my work table is fabric and a template for a very interesting one patch, which I found on the internet last year, but more about that later.

Until next time.....happy quilting!

Karen

I have seen a quilt with a zillion of these little thimbles and I LOVE it. I so look forward to seeing yours come to life. Are you doing these by hand?

I have 2 books in my shopping cart at Amazon and this is one of them. Maybe I need to push the BUY button.

Oh please don't talk about the thimbles :-)
Here in The Netherlands several people are working on them too. And I love it!
But I am working on three quilts already and spinning and weaving and knitting socks and......
But your fabric looks so yummie, I know, thimbles.

Yummy! This is going to be a delightful quilt. We all have our thing that we zoom in on and repeat in our projects that we like. Your quilt will be a treasure and love the fabrics you are using. Are you doing this by hand or machine?

Love your fabric and I have the same as you. Love working with the klosjes, the hexies and already have 280 thimbles. They are all so easy to take with you. I do them in the car, in the garden, when I go visit.

This thimble quilt is quite a succes in the netherlands. Look at this blog (http://supergoof.web-log.nl/mijn_weblog/vingerhoedjesquilt/). She makes a thimle quilt of more than 6.000 little thimbles.

Ah: you've also been infected by the thimble-virus! It's a good virus and very well to handle for a doll quilt. It looks great!

One patch quilts are a wonderful way to use up scraps or to use a planned theme. Versatile.

There's something that's just so much fun about one-patch quilts! I love the little thimbles -- in those fabrics, it's going to be a very cheerful quilt!

I had some anonymous chunks of fabrics somebody gave me and I spy 3 or 4 of them in your thimble fabric. It's going to be a bright, vibrant quilt.
I knew that book title sounded familiar. I checked my bookshelves, and there it is. I'd better leaf through it again.
