Summer Holiday

A truly good book teaches me better than to read it. I must soon lay it down, and commence living on its hint.... What I began by reading, I must finish by acting.  ~Henry David Thoreau

With August comes summer's end, time to break from daily routine and relax.  Instead of tending the garden I shall sit in the garden.  Meals will be simple, straight from the vegetable patch.  Long walks, afternoon naps and endless hours of reading.  This summer my Reading Retreat will be devoted entirely to the quilt.  I even ordered some new books,  as you can never have too many!

New Books

Quilts in the Attic, Hobo Quilts and 500 Art Quilts, a gift from my sister.

A few more books, the price was right!

New books at discount prices, all for $24.

Until next time.....happy quilting and happy end of summer!

Karen

This summer I've done a lot more reading than usual as I have been away from my sewing machine. I just love the Thoreau quote. I'm amazed at how the books I've read over the last few months have spoken to me in such personal ways. Thanks for sharing and ENJOY!

What a lovely inspiring pile of books, Karen - hope you enjoy your reading retreat. It's a great idea to put time aside to switch off and read.

Sounds like a perfect retreat! I hope you get rested, and enjoy every minute.

I love your blog and how the quote fits perfectly with the stack of old books. I never really read as much and I should take the time to do so. Tending my flower beds, quilting and teaching full time really leave me very little time for much else. Enjoy your new books.

Summer just seems to have finally arrived in the Dordogne after very up and down weather. Usually by now we are getting 'autumnal' mornings and I feel as though I am winding down to autumn. However, a week of 30+ degrees and blue skies, hot nights when we have the fan blowing all night and the grass turning brown are the order of the day. After 10 days with friends staying and getting out and about I shall be making an early start in the garden tomorrow and hopefully be sewing in the afternoon. I too love to read and your reading list looks fascinating. I hope you have a wonderful relaxing time.

Your plans for this week sounds really relaxing! I have always fought against the guilty conscience, when I'm reading good (or bad) books... because I can't decide, which one is the best way to use my time... reading or crafting. But I have realized, when I'm reading I can also knit at the same time ;o) Do I sound too fool?

You can never have too many quilt books!! And I think we keep going back to some of the older ones, too, Even if I never make anything from some of them, they are wonderful to look through and dream about doing some of the projects. Enjoy, Karen!!
