Building Houses

I just could not resist Building Houses from Scraps a fun project Jeanneke put together for 2012.  The plan is to try to make a house block every day, so at the end of the year you have a total of 366 (it's a leap year) house blocks.  The houses are tiny (7.5 cm x 7.5 cm) and meant to be hand pieced, which is perfect for me, but you can make them larger and piece by machine, if you like.  Rules are few, but one important one is not to show a completed quilt before the end of the year, as Jeanneke said, it is not a race and takes the fun out of it for other participants if you do.

Last year I decide to go smaller and not make large quilts anymore, just finish the ones I have on the go now and a few I have already purchased the fabric for.  So, I will be sticking to my rule and only building enough houses for a doll size quilt and it will be stretched out over the year.  As you can see, I'm going with Batiks to build my houses.

Until next time.....happy quilting!

Karen

I've seen a lot of new construction all over blogland! I decided not to join in on this one, but I love the idea of not showing any compoeted quilts before the end of the year. I always get very frustrated when something is made into a race and I can't keep up. Good luck with your houses!

Hi, lovely to use batiks. I have chosen for traditional costume fabrics for the Netherlands (that's where I live). I won't be making 365 houses, just a smaller quilt. But I love to surf along all the other building constructors to see what they do. bye bye Caro

Love the use of batiks for these little house blocks!!! I've only made one so far, so I don't think I'll end up with 365 at the end of the year, but I'll have a few for small quilt!!! They definitely have the 'cute' factor!!!

Your wee house looks great Karen and I like the idea of Batiks. Hmm I have friend going to Bali maybe she will bring home some nice fabric.
I am making my houses 6" so I do not need to make as many.

Like the batik style house! There is a lot of building going on, in the quilting world. I'm not building houses, just want to finish some UFO's...

Love your 'sunny' house, it is a happy one. I also think that maybe 366 is a bit too much. I just will see when I think it is enough.

A lovely house..the batiks will give your quilt a really unique look. I've decided to go with 2 a week but not sure what size I'm wanting to end up with!
