September Resolutions

January is the time of year for resolutions, but I think September is the perfect time to revisit your goals. A time to reorganize, make decisions and get back on track. For me, this would not be possible without my little black book. It holds my list of needed supplies, for new or current projects. It also holds fabric swatches, lots of doodles and an inventory of all my quilting tools, patterns, threads, etc. I don't leave home without it!

Every year I resolve to be a little less the me I know and leave a little room for the me I could be.

I'm going to have to blame the Civil War Bride for my falling a month behind on my baskets. Anyway, here is my A Tisket A Tasket August Basket.

I had a little freezer paper scare. Three grocery stores before I found some. What's with that? I love freezer paper for applique and making my Dear Jane templates. I don't know what I would do without it. Two boxes came home with me, but I'm feeling a need to stock up.

Until next week.....happy quilting!

Apple Season

The corn is turning brown
The trees in apple orchards
With fruit are bending down."

Civil War Bride Block One

One down, nineteen to go!
What a great block to stitch. I love the irregularity of the pattern. It makes it more real.
I've been wondering what the two brown objects are at the top of the block. I did them in a similar colour to the original pattern and have ruled out it being foliage, as all foliage in the original quilt was done with the same green fabric. So, what else can it be? Could it be bird's nose diving? This quilt has lots of birds in it.

Until next week.....happy quilting!

POTC Block 4 and 5

Golden Harvest

Pumpkin Crossing

Golden Harvest is really more golden then the picture shows, but you get the idea. As you can see, I did a little fussy cutting in the middle. I even fussy cut my last Dear Jane block. Pumpkin Crossing reminds me of a pumpkin patch at harvest time. When all the foliage has died and all you see is rows of pumpkins.

Fabric for my Civil War Bride quilt arrived in the mail last week. I went with Circles and Dots, from the Bonnie Blue Neutrals collection. This should make for a nice background. Block one is now prepared for hand applique and I hope to start stitching this week. My plan is to use all reproduction fabric. With that said, I know I will need to purchase some black and gray fabric and lots more green, for all the foliage.

I've also been working on Karen's Flower Garden and must confess that I didn't get as many flowers made over the summer as I hoped to. And, well I am confessing, my two miniature quilt books are still sitting on my bedside table, only a quarter read because I keep falling asleep.

And, it's time for my Tiny Baskets to come off the design wall and get stitched together. All this time has passed and I'm going with my first idea. Very simple, as not to distract from the baskets. As for my Louisa pyramids, I'm thinking table topper with an appliqued border.

Until next week.....happy quilting!
