Homespun Cupcakes

Did you know..........................

Cupcakes date back to the 18th century and were originally baked in tea cups. In Britain, you can have a cupcake or a fairy cake. They are one in the same.

I was craving something sweet, so I whipped up a batch of Homespun Cupcakes. Sweet and delicious, can you stop at just one? Not me! I'm going to make sixteen of them.

Click here for a free cupcake pattern, from ABC Teach.

Once they have cooled down, I will dress them up, because a cupcake is not a cupcake without a little sparkle!

Until next week.....happy quilting!

Amish Stripe

My Amish Stripe wall hanging is now pieced and ready for quilting.

The binding is also going to be done in the same light green fabric as the inner border.  Now, I just have to decide how to quilt it. Any suggestions?

Adding the black bars sure made the colours pop out. I am in the middle of making a small table topper with the leftovers. Waste Not, Want Not will be a good name for that one, don't you think?

I'm still dreaming of my trip to Shipshewana, Indiana. Here's what came home with me.

Thirty-five yards of fabric.

Some 1930's fabric.

Also, Civil War fabric.

And how can you not love the solids.

Some wonderful stencils.

Here is a brand of needles, I have yet to try, for Applique and hand piecing.

My favourite time of year! If you like the colours of Autumn, you are surely going to love pumpkins gone wild. I do believe some of my new solids will go nicely with it.

Here is my new fabric storage container. Love the colour. Just like Kermit the Frog.

Until next week.....happy quilting!

Shipshewana, Northern Indiana

Have you been? Shipshewana and surrounding area is home to the third largest Amish community, in the United States. Shipshewana is also home to Yoder's Department Store. An excellent reason for a road trip.

I woke to the sound of clip clops of passing buggies. Time to get up and explore. And, explore we did, until almost everything closed down, at 5:00 pm. Then, it was time for dinner and what dinners we had. I made sure I left some room for Shoofly pie! Evenings were spent resting and quilting.

We spent many, many hours in Yoder's Department Store. They have over 12,000 bolts of fabric and the service is the best. Take a look inside.

We also did some fabric shopping at Lolly's Fabric in Shipshewana, The Quilt Shop in Essenhaus and Calico Point in Goshen.

The following are photos taken in Shipshewana as we went from shop to shop.

Just love the Amish quilts. The colours are wonderful.

This stitchery was on a pillow that was for sale in one of the shops.

We also stopped at The Old Bag Factory, in Goshen. Below are some photos of an old thread machine, threads and spools, one garden picture and the log cabin that houses, Quilt Designs.

I ran out of time, but this is the first year for the Quilt Gardens Tour. Garden beds designed to look like patchwork. It's free and runs from May 23 til the first frost.

Now, I must mention "the sandwich." We stopped, for lunch, at Panera Bread on our way to Indiana. I had the Mediterranean Veggie sandwich. Yummy! It was so good, I had another one on my way home. So darn good, I had to take a picture, before it disappeared.

Just before heading off to Indiana, I started a wall hanging called, Amish Stripe. This pattern comes from a book called, Country Friends Go Quilting, by Gooseberry Patch. My pieces are cut and ready to sew.

Once my shopping bags are unpacked, I will share my finds with you.

Until next week.....happy quilting!

Summer Tea

There is nothing like a cup of tea in the garden. Early in the morning, listening to the birds and taking in the beauty around you. I love to garden and survive, I would not, if I didn't have dirt to dig in. Have you ever taken in the garden, not with your eyes, but your nose? The smell of the earth alone is heavenly. Summer Tea is the name I gave my recently completed table topper. The pattern for the teapot and teacups came from Debbie Mumm's book Quick Country Quilts for Every Room. I did the applique by hand. Hope you like it!

Would you like to see my Tea Garden?

Well, I'm off for a cup of tea. So.................

Until next week.....happy quilting!

My stash is packed and I am ready to go, because quilting is deep down in my soul. I wish to discover, create and share and meet along the way, others who dare. So, here's to a safe and happy journey.
