Edging the Flower Garden

Just as important as the flowers themselves, I think edging the garden enhances the appearance and brings out the beauty of each and every flower.  So, without fail, each spring, my garden beds are edged.

And, without fail, every Wednesday I have been slowly edging my hexagon flower garden.  I am very pleased with the border fabric and have now completed two rounds.  But, there is nothing straight edged about hexagons and my garden has taken on a bit of a funny shape.

So, I must decide if another round is required before straightening the edges or is it now just a matter of placing hexagons in key spots.  Adding a little colour to the border is also a possibility.  Only time will tell.

Recently, we removed an old cast iron fireplace from my Dad's basement and I decided to keep the feet, something caught my eye, they could be interesting in the garden.  Look closely, do you see what I see?

Until next time.....happy quilting!

Karen

Your colourchoice is wonderful :-) I´ll applique my flowers on borderstrips and add a scallopped border, but there are 28 flowers to go before that :-)
happy quilting

That's what I've been enjoying about my hexie-garden too; it keeps taking it's own direction!! Love your border fabric - and look forward to seeing more.

You made a wonderful choice for your border hexies. It sets off the flowers perfectly.
What do I see in the foot? One time I saw two ladies in prayer and another time I saw a bull with very fancy horns - lol!

Lovely flower garden! Think I'm really going to have to make a flower garden quilt--I'll put it on next year's list, this year it too full already!

Hi Karen,
I am so glad I found your blog again. It helped me get another flower completed, which is the encouragement to finish more. You have come a long way with yours. I too love the color choice for your edge.

blessings, jilly

It's wonderful that you're seeing a finish in the near future. I like the colors you've chosen for the edge of your hexie quilt. Interesting piece of cast iron. It looks like a horse's head. I also see 2 little hearts, scrolls, and is that a stat in the middle of the head? I looked all over trying to find a hexagon with no luck. What do you see?

Well I feel like I'm looking at one of those pictures you look at until you see a 3-D figure in it......but the main thing I see is the bull head at the bottom....but I really like the foot for your garden.....Your hexies garden is nice....I like the border you have chosen to set the flowers off......you are an inspiration!

Beautiful flower garden! Wondering if you are going to put that great old piece of cast iron (which looks like a wonderful animal with horns) in your garden to ward off unwanted little critters! Have a good weekend, Karen.

The border is looking good! I love the idea of some random hexes scattered about-- like petals fallen into the path. But applique would also look lovely.

I see a hippo! Or a dragon. :P
