Twist of Lemon

From an Eleanor Burns book called, Egg Money Quilts, came this quilt, I call Twist of Lemon. I wasn't much interested in 1930's fabric until I came across a display at a booth, during the Creativ Festival, in Toronto, October 2007. I fell in love with the yellows and greens and knew then I would make a Dresden quilt. I was half way through hand quilting around this time last year, when I stopped working on it. How fast the year went by, but I picked it up again and finished it!

I hand quilted around all the inner circles, blocks and Dresden's. Then I quilted up the edge of each blade to the edge of the block. That made for a very pretty pattern on the back and front of the quilt.

Up next for hand quilting will be my Farmer's Market quilt. Times Remembered really should be next, it's just so big! Once the Farmer's Market is completed, I'm pretty sure I will be ready for the big one. Then that will leave two, even smaller quilts, waiting to be hand quilted.

It's hard to believe it is December already. Last Wednesday I worked in the garden, raking up the last of the leaves, did some pruning, cleaned and oiled my garden tools and cleaning out the eaves. Then, I had to cut the lawn again!! Such a warm November we had and December started off in the 50's. Please let this be the last cutting!

I should have taken a picture, but I didn't. My sister likes to scrapbook and so she made me an Advent calendar. Instead of being chocolate filled, it is Cosmo embroidery floss filled! Isn't that the best!

Until next week.....happy quilting!

Karen

"Twist of Lemon" is a good name for your quilt. I do like the 30's fabrics but don't use them. I have had many of them and made things with them but always have given them away. My interest in them has grown again.

Karen, this quilt is so pretty. I am not a big 30's fan. I always love someone elses quilt better than to do one on my own.
The other two applique quilts that are waiting on you are fabulous too.

Your twist of lemon is just beautiful!! I love Eleanor Burns, her patterns are just terrific. I can't believe that you didn't get any snow yet. We got some on Saturday and it is sticking!!

Such a pretty quilt, Karen. I love the 30's fabrics - they are so sweet. I guess I just love all kinds of fabric - batiks, oriental, Kaffe, all the Moda stuff! We have such a wonderful array of material to pick from now as opposed to when I started quilting way back when. Bet you feel glad to get your garden ready for it's winter nap! It's been a fine fall. Your lemon quilt is just beautiful. I really admire you for hand-quilting it. I gave up hand-quilting my table topper; it is now at the sewing machine, waiting to be machine-quilted. I just don't have the patience for hand work on that scale!

I'm not a fan of 30's either but there are a few quilts out there that have caught my eye and so I collect 30's in anticipation of the day I have enough to make one of them! Yours is delightful.

Just gorgeous. I have some dresden plates made from feedsacks I picked up at a sale a year or so ago that I have yet to sew down onto blocks. You're inspiring me to get cracking! ;)
