Hummingbird House
Times Remembered
I almost forgot to show you the last block of my Times Remembered quilt and the finished top. This is the largest quilt I have made and my first all appliqued quilt. The cat, heart in hand, eggs and hummingbirds were all done in wool. Everything else was needle-turned. If you recognize this Pat Sloan pattern, you will have noticed, that I changed the border from flowers and the words Times Remembered to lots of bees and butterflies. Hope I didn't ruin it by doing so.
It has been a year since I completed Times Remembered and I still don't know how to go about quilting it. This seems to be my trouble spot. Deciding how to quilt a quilt and if I should do it by hand or machine. I would love to do them all by hand. At present, seven quilts are waiting to be quilted and it sure would be nice to see some completed.
So, what I have decided is to machine quilt at least half of them. In order to do that, I need to adjust my quilting schedule and add some machine quilting time each week. Veranda Views BOM ends next month, so that will give me a little extra time, but it will also give me one more quilt that needs quilting! Oh dear, life as a quilter is not easy, is it?
Until next week.....happy quilting!
Karen

What a great quilt! I have no idea if this is the norm or not, but I always think of applique quilts as being the ones that really benefit from hand quilting. Of course, I say that because my machine quilting skills are non-existent!
I LOVE it! You did an amazing job :)
Karen your times remembered is beautiful.
Because of the size I had a really hard time quilting it but finally got it done.
Beautiful, Karen. Another lovely quilt. Getting them quilted is a dilemna - if you are like me, while you are working on one you are thinking about others that you would like to do. Not enough hours in a day. Good idea to do part by hand and others by machine. Carol
It's just lovely Karen! Well done! :0)
All that work is absolutely gorgeous! Times Remembered - dad died in December and loved his hummingbirds. The block shows them and my heart quickly skipped a small beat for dad and Times Remembered. Thank you
What an amazing quilt!
I totally understand about having tops completed but not quilted. If I was rich, I would send them all out to get quilted. LOL!
What a beautiful quilt!! You did a great job on your first every all applique quilt! I think the butterflies and bees are perfect for the border. I often will change a pattern a bit to make it more personalized. :0)
Sometimes you have to let a quilt sit for awile before quilting it. They will eventually speak to you as to how they want to be quilted. Whether by hand or machine.....Good luck.
Your quilt is fabulous and you did a great job on your first all applique quilt. I like your border too.
I really like the border - seems just perfect for that pattern.
Your applique is so beautiful!
You are right, not an easy choice! The top is so beautiful I think I would hand-quilt it just to be able to enjoy looking at it close up, and taking my time with the quilting, too...
; )
Gosh this is really an amazing work. How proud you should and must be!
It's very very beautiful!!
I understand. If we started getting all those tops quilted, it would mean no new projects for awhile. It's lovely and I think the border is great too.
Your times remembered photos are lovely....what a gorgeous project! I love it! I love the butterflys and bees in the border! So unique! No matter whether you hand quilt or machine, it will be wonderful! Enjoy the process!
Great job and isn't nice to finish a project!
Happy summer!
Zlaty :)

What a beautiful quilt, you have done an amazing job with this. i love the border with the butterflies and bees, I didn't see the original but I think this looks fabulous. I hope you work out which way to quilt it, not an easy decision xo
What a beautiful quilt! Karen, you do such amazing work.
The quilting thing is hard for me too. For me, the holdup is that I'm always afraid of "ruining" a beautiful top by choosing the wrong design or with my mediocre quilting. I need to just get over it! :)
Karen this is a gorgeous quilt!! I just love the pattern and the fab fabrics!! well done on your first!! it is a masterpiece
What a beautiful quilts...
